Afro-Latinos Unite...

I am an Afro-Latin, quite proud of being una negra and orgullosa of the fact que naci en Venezuela to Afro Carib parents from Trinidad, and blam the Trini-Vene connection exposed. I am fortunate. Tengo mucho ache. Raised in an integrated lifestyle, my father loved Malcom X & MLK, studied Ghandi and Bolivar, plus insisted on that diversity and acceptance of the big beautiful world teaching me to speak English and Spanish from the time I could crawl.

I was blessed from jump, Dios me dejo bien very well... Great familia, full of people, artists, gypsies, musicos who are infuriatingly intelligent, plus crazy & self centered, but since they see me as an extension of them, I'm perfect... sounds crazy but I gotta be honest about mi gente here.

I've never been confused about who I am or where I'm from, it's been a solid life for me thus far. Although, a lot of people, black, white, Latin etc... whether they be co-workers, friends, acquaintances, bosses etc... have always been confused or a bit intimidated by what I may or may not represent for them.

So I live in a few different worlds. My Latina world where I dance salsa en clave with my man, Enrique and speak Spanish only. I don't feel the need to translate or explain myself to anyone that's with us cuz I don't have to...

There's the television producer who creates advertising, programming and other things for BET J, The other BET channel that attracts the sophisticated viewer. I am direct & infinitely authentic about my blackness. Sometimes I gotta leettle splainin to do... wit my brothas & sistas... Not much cuz they're accustomed to La Mimi around that hood.

And then there's the TVA Productions, Ltd. CEO, Miriam Machado-Luces, the Afro-Latina Emmy award winning producer/ writer/ director... person who strives to integrate all of those Mimi's and worlds I've been living in, and, or creating. So there you have it; I'm me, Si soy yo... I'm Latin! I'm Black! I speak Spanish and English and Spanglish; all very well. So love me, hate me,
I just want you to see me and acknowledge that I do... as well as millions of other Afro-Latins like me, do exist... prevail, exhale.. hell just dance!!!!!!!!!! :-)
